Seeing and understanding
Many machine and system operators know this: The combination of an AC/DC sensitive residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) – increasingly used in industry – and modern automation technology has its pitfalls. Components such as frequency inverters and RFI filters can generate high leakage currents, which are incorrectly recognized as residual currents by an upstream RCD and thus lead to disconnection. This results in losses due to downtimes.
Although the level of leakage current load can also be measured using other methods, these lack a detailed analysis of the frequency components, which is essential for a correct assessment of the situation.
The LEAKWATCH measuring and analysis system was developed specifically for this purpose. It measures the leakage current load and displays the frequency ranges in high resolution. The option of displaying the tripping characteristics of all common RCDs enables a detailed analysis of the situation and the countermeasures suggested by the software make the selection of suitable filter measures child’s play!
In short: LEAKWATCH is the tool for effective analysis and optimization of leakage currents!

| LEAKWATCH – Measurement and analysis of residual current and leakage current in detail.mp4 | 222.00 M |
In detail
As already mentioned at the beginning, AC/DC sensitive residual current circuit breakers are increasingly being used in industry. The modern components in automation technology (such as frequency inverters, inverters, EMC filters, switched-mode power supplies, etc.) generate system-related high leakage currents. These operational leakage currents are interpreted by the RCD protective devices as residual current (differential current), which often leads to an unsafe operating condition or to the RCD switching off.
The RCD cannot distinguish between operational leakage currents and true fault currents.
In practice, it is possible to measure the level of the leakage current load, but there is no statement about the individual frequency components of this load and the possibility of assessment, in relation to the tripping characteristic of the RCDs used (the RCD tripping thresholds differ depending on the type and manufacturer used).
The LEAKWATCH measuring and analysis system was specially developed for measuring leakage currents (residual currents). It offers the possibility to bring the measuring signal directly in relation to the tripping characteristic of all well-known AC/DC sensitive residual current circuit breakers (type B / B+) available on the market. By means of a percentage display and a colored traffic light display, the degree of utilization of the selected residual current device can be recognized immediately.
The frequency analysis and a consideration of the effective values of individual frequency components provide valuable assistance for the leakage current balancing and the selection of possible filter measures (e.g. low-leakage current line filters, leakage current compensation or similar).
Thus, the LEAKWATCH is the solution for the preparation of the leakage current balance.

Quick and easy!
Leakage current measurement with the LEAKWATCH measuring and analysis system is quick and easy with the current clamp: No disconnection of the wiring necessary and also possible with larger (up to Ø 53 mm) cable cross sections.
