{"id":1063,"date":"2021-06-11T08:27:37","date_gmt":"2021-06-11T08:27:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/epa.de\/filter\/en\/?page_id=1063"},"modified":"2022-07-08T14:20:08","modified_gmt":"2022-07-08T14:20:08","slug":"leakage-current-compensation-leakcomp-1c","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/epa.de\/filter\/en\/products\/leakage-current-compensation-leakcomp-1c\/","title":{"rendered":"Leakage current compensation <strong>LEAK<\/strong>COMP<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> <strong><em>1C<\/em><\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>In summary:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Fixed compensation for operational 50 Hz leakage currents of 5 mA or 11 mA<\/li>\n<li>Increases the operational safety of plants<\/li>\n<li>Operation of single-phase loads on RCD \/ RCCB with rated residual currents of 30 mA or higher &rarr; Compliance with the requirements for personal and fire protection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The EPA <strong>LEAK<\/strong>COMP<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> <strong><i>1C<\/i><\/strong> is used to compensate the capacitive leakage currents with a frequency of 50 Hz, which result from EMC filter measures for single-phase loads (e.g. power supplies, frequency inverters, UPS, lights, line filters, Y capacitors etc.).<\/p>\n<p>These so-called <strong>&#8220;operational&#8221; leakage currents<\/strong> are recognized by the RCD protective devices as residual currents and so often lead to <strong>unsafe operating conditions<\/strong> or to <strong>shutdown of the machine or system<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>The problem<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/localhost\/epa-filter\/de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/01\/Leakcomp_1C_Ausl\u00f6sekennlinie_ohne.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost\/epa-filter\/de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/01\/Leakcomp_1C_Ausl\u00f6sekennlinie_ohne-720x551.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"551\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1946\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the industry, <strong>residual current circuit breakers (RCCB) are used more and more<\/strong> for personal and fire protection. The modern components in automation technology (such as frequency inverters, line filters, switched-mode power supplies, shielded motor cables, etc.) generate system-related leakage currents. These so-called <strong>&#8220;operational&#8221; leakage currents<\/strong> are recognized by the RCD protective devices as residual currents and so often <strong>lead to unsafe operating conditions<\/strong> or to shutdown of the system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\">The residual current device (RCD) cannot differentiate between operational leakage currents and real residual currents.<\/p>\n<p>In order to avoid undesired tripping of the residual current circuit breaker, a device is required that can compensate the capacitive leakage currents with a frequency of 50 Hz.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>The solution:<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/epa.de\/filter\/de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/05\/Leakcomp_1C_Auslo\u0308sekennlinie_mit.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2617 size-large alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/epa.de\/filter\/de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/05\/Leakcomp_1C_Auslo\u0308sekennlinie_mit-1024x783.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"489\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The selectable (5 or 11 mA) leakage current compensation device <strong>LEAK<\/strong>COMP<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> <strong><i>1C<\/i><\/strong> was specially developed for this purpose. It is used in electrical systems or machines in which (mostly single-phase) devices with an integrated EMC filter have to operate on residual current devices (RCD) or residual current circuit breakers (RCCB) with rated residual currents I\u2206n = 30 mA or higher.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>LEAK<\/strong>COMP<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> <strong><i>1C<\/i><\/strong> compensates the operational leakage currents that occur in the system \/ machine and thus prevents false tripping of residual current protective devices, which are caused by excessively high 50 Hz leakage currents. This functionality is given with all commercially available RCCB of types A, F, B and B + (short-time delayed (KV) version recommended).<\/p>\n<p>The level of the 50 Hz compensation current is 5 mA and can be increased to 11 mA via a wire bridge.
